What is Esthiology?

At Aveda Institute, our esthiology program teaches all the latest techniques in skincare, helping you graduate with a certification to practice as an Esthetician.

What Does an Esthetician Do?

An Esthetician is someone who specializes in beautification of the skin, performing services for clients with services like waxing, cosmetic treatments, body treatments, facials, laser skin rejuvenation, and more. If a guest has questions about skincare products they should use or their skin type, an esthetician is someone who can help answer these questions. Although Estheticians do specialize in skincare, an esthetician only performs services on the epidermal layer of the skin and is not qualified to diagnose clients with skin conditions.

What Will I Learn in an Esthiology Program?

At Aveda Institute, our esthiology program is focused on helping students become a full specialist esthetician. From our curriculum, students learn all about the latest skincare techniques so they can pursue whatever future in the skincare industry that interests them the most. At Aveda, we promote total health and wellness and we’re dedicated to making sure that our students learn with the Aveda mission in mind. All of our lesson plans in skincare are taught through a combination of time spent in the classroom and practicing what you’ve learned on actual guests on our clinic floor under the direct supervision of licensed professionals.

Not only do we teach students the practical skills of skincare through our personal Aveda perspective, but we also made sure to include lessons in business strategies. We understand that in today’s beauty world, licensed beauticians should be business savvy. Whether you’re planning on managing your own salon or simply promoting yourself as a beauty professional, learning these skills can be a great start to your career.

Here are just some of the lessons included in our esthiology curriculum:

  • Facials
  • Makeup application
  • Manicures/pedicures
  • Waxing (face and body)
  • Business skills
  • And so much more

We care about our students’ success both during our program and when they graduate, which is why we make sure to include skills that will help you with a career in multiple areas of the skincare industry. During our program, you’ll receive an esthetics kit that has all the tools you need to complete our class!

Why Should I Become an Esthetician?

Help People Feel Better

There’s nothing better than feeling like your career is making a positive impact on people’s lives and as an esthetician, you could be doing just that. Many people suffer from skin conditions that may cause them to have self-esteem issues. Your job gives them the confidence boost they need.

The Industry is Growing

One of the most exciting parts about entering the skincare industry is the expanding job outlook. With the heavy focus on skincare in the beauty industry, it comes as no surprise that this profession is rapidly expanding.

Start Doing What You Love Sooner

An education in esthetics could allow you to start a career in the beauty world in less than a year! At Aveda Institute, we offer two scheduling options so you can choose which one is more convenient for you. Students who enroll in our full-time course can complete their education in as little as 6.5 months. How Do I Become an Esthetician?

Now that you know more about esthetics, you’re ready to find out how you can start becoming a licensed beauty professional! We know that the process can seem overwhelming at first, which is why we’ve created a list of all the steps you need to do before starting your career.

1. Research Beauty Schools

Before you can start your beauty education, you first need to research different schools to find out which is the right one for you! This is an important step because it allows you to discover what is important for your personal beauty journey. Maybe you prefer a program that offers different scheduling options or you may want to learn a specific skincare technique. Now is the time to find out which school offers what you need for your education. The school’s website is a great place for you to start your research! Or, call us to speak directly to an admissions manager at 877-282-8332.

2. Tour Beauty Schools

After learning all you can from a school’s website, it’s time to schedule your tour! Touring beauty schools is your opportunity to ask questions about your personal beauty journey and have these answered by the people most qualified to give you information. Not only is this the best time to ask questions, but it allows you to experience the school’s culture for yourself. You’re going to be spending a lot of time with instructors and other students so it’s important that you feel like this school could become your beauty family. Here are some questions that might be good to ask:

  • What will I learn in your program?
  • Do you offer multiple schedule options?
  • Can I apply for financial aid?
  • What is your school’s culture like?
  • What products will I be using?

As you’re researching schools, make sure that they offer the required amount of training hours that the state requires for you to become a certified esthetician.

3. Apply for the Esthiology Program

You’ve done all the research and now it’s time to actually apply for the beauty program that fits for you. At Aveda Institute, we have an easy step-by-step application process to help you get started. If you have any questions during this stage of your beauty journey, a member of our admissions team would be happy to help you!

4. Complete the State Licensing Requirements

In the state of Florida, students are required to complete a minimum of 260 hours of training before they can become certified. All of these hours need to be completed at a school that’s been approved by the state board. At Aveda Institute, you can complete our program in as little as 6.5 or 9.5 months with 600 hours of training. Our training plan will help you feel completely confident to enter the skincare industry.

5. Submit Your Esthetician Application Form

Once you’ve graduated from our esthiology program, you’re now qualified to submit your application form and become a certified esthetician. Congratulations, this is an incredible achievement. You can either apply online or through a paper application for your esthetician license. Normally, this application requires a fee but students in our program have this covered as part of their tuition!

6. Find Out What You Want to Do

Now comes the most exciting part! You’ve done all the work and you’re now ready to explore what career option is the best for you. With so many opportunities, it all depends on what you want most for your future!

What Can I Do as an Esthetician?

Wondering which career paths you should think about pursuing now that you have your license? This industry is expected to keep growing, which means that there are a variety of job opportunities. Not sure if working in a spa or salon setting is right for you? There are plenty of other options available.
